In situ partial-depth cold recycling

The recycling agent is bitumen emulsion or foamed bitumen, with the addition of very small amount of cement, lime or water-cement slurry, most probably a requirement for the acceleration of breaking and for strength development of the recycled cold mix. 

The two-unit, or multiple-unit, cold in situ recycling trains provide the ultimate process control and quality of recycled mix. This is because the milled material may be crushed further, achieving better particle distribution, the oversized materials can be removed from the reclaimed material and the amount of recycling agents is directly related to the volume of reclaimed material. The latter ensures application rates of recycling agents as much as required. 

The initial compaction after rolling and the final compaction after rolling are carried out by vibrating steel drum rollers or pneumatic rollers. 

After final compaction, the surface is usually treated with single or double surface dressing. Alternatively, a hot mix asphalt overlay may be selected to be applied.
