Implantable medical devices wound dressings

In this context, textiles and fibrous structures are being brought to play an essential role in the efficiency of implantable medical devices. Textiles are already used in many medical devices such as gowns, wound dressings, face masks, stockings, etc. Discontinuity, directionality, and multiscale levels are some of the fibrous structure fundamentals that lead to obvious wearability features and ability to conform to the body with softness and comfort. In an intracoiporeal use, three other resulting key points of these fundamentals are valuable. [Pg.257]

Aliphatic isocyanates have a small but growing market application in thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU). Medical appflcafions include wound dressings, catheters, implant devices, and blood bags. A security glass system using light-stable TPU as an inner layer is under evaluation for shatterproof automotive windshield appflcafions. [Pg.459]

Recent advances in the field of biomaterials and their medical applications indicate the significance and potential of various nanoceUulose in the development of novel classes of medical devices and applications in healthcare and veterinary medicine. The physical and mechanical properties of nanocellulose are attributes that enable nanocellulose membranes to function as effective temporary wound dressings. On the other hand, because implantable biomaterials (i.e., scaffolds) are also needed, a new approach has been undertaken to apply cellulose as a material entirely integrated into the body, either as a bone or skin graft. [Pg.564]
