Impact of elements

Within the past two decades it has become increasingly dear that information on only total concentrations of the elements cannot provide all the required information about mobility, bioavaUability and, finally, the impact of elements on ecological systems or biological organisms. Only knowledge of the chemical species of the elements can provide an understanding of chemical and biochemical reactions and thus lead to more information about toxicity or essentiality.
