Hysteretic behaviour

In order to model also the dissociation effects, the concentrations of the bound groups and mobile ions are functions of space and time. For incorporating the hysteretic behaviour, refer to Gunther et al. (2007) (see also Chap. 5). 

The dehydrated MIL-53 compounds have moderate H2 adsorption capacities of 2.8 wt% for MIL-53(Cr) and 3.8 wt% for MIL-53 (Al) [131]. Significant adsorp-tion/desorption hysteretic behaviour was observed in the H2 isotherm which is clearly due to the dynamic behaviour of MIL-53. 

Upon removal of the light source, the colouring disappears as the molecule remms to its inactivated state, i.e. rest state. Deactivation is usually a slower process than activation and hysteretic behaviour is noted. In terms of the dynamics of deactivation, visible light spectra and heat will increase it, while polar solvents decrease it. Colouring is usually of lower intensity at higher temperamres, i.e. reversely proportionate.

In 1963, Mendenhall and Mendenhall described an Instrument which can carry out the compression and expansion cycles of surface films automatically upto a ratio of 70 1. This phenomenon of alternate compression and expansion is called hysteresis. Study of hysteresis loops, i.e., surface tension as a function of area, are of physiological Importance. It has been observed that a surfactant found in the alveoli, responsible for the pressure-volume hysteresis following contraction and relaxation of the whole lung, exhibits hysteretic behaviour and thus prevents the lung from collapsing after a contraction wave (see Box 6.2). 

Ether chains linked to pyrrole by methylene bridges have been reported. A polyether chain was linked to pyrrole at the 3 position (57) and the polymer was obtained [263]. We have also investigated the effect of slow and rapid compression-decompression cycles on the force-distance profiles, which shows a characteristic hysteretic behaviour for adsorbed chains in good solvents (dashed curve, Fig. 2). Figure 5 shows the results of a series of slow and rapid compression-decompression cycles with the end-grafted PS-X. Within the scatter, the profiles are the same, the effect of slow relaxation of the compressed layers being markedly absent.
