Hydrophilic hyaluronic acid

Mucoadhesives are generally macromolecular organic polymers made from natural (gelatin, agarose, chitosan, hyaluronic acid) or synthetic polymers (polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), polyacrylates, polyvinyl alcohol, cellulose derivates). They possess hydrophilic groups that can... [Pg.189]

For the analysis of water-soluble polymers (such as surfactants, oligosaccharides, PEGS, lignosulfonates, polyacrylates, polysaccharides, PVA, cellulose derivatives, PEG, polyacrylic acids, polyacrylamides, hyaluronic acids, CMC, starches, gums) and for separations of oligomers and small molecules, columns that are comprised of macroporous material with hydrophilic functionalities may be used. The requirement for these columns in SEC mode is to eliminate or minimize ionic and hydrophobic effects that make aqueous SEC (otherwise known as GFC) very demanding. The interaction of analytes with neutral, ionic, and hydrophobic moieties must be suppressed. It is often necessary to modify the eluent (addition of salt) in order to avoid sample-to-sample and sample-to-column interactions that can result in poor aqueous SEC separations and low recoveries. [Pg.272]

The vitreous humor of the eye is a hydrophilic gel with water content above 99%, formed by a network of collagen and hyaluronic acid, which in some pathological situations becomes dysfunctional. For this reason, some hydrogels have been tested as substitutes for the vitreous humor of the eye, among them hydrogels of PVP, polyacrylamide (PA) and PVA, although no truly satisfactory result has been achieved. ... [Pg.2028]

Diffusion coefficients of a variety of penetrants (such as methane, methanol, ethanol, benzaldehyde, acetophenone, benzoic acid, fluocinolone acetonide, etc) in PE, PDMS, poly(methyl methacrylate-co-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), and ethyl and benzyl esters of hyaluronic acid were calculated by Li and co-workers (327) using molecular dynamics. The main conclusions of their study were that the values of the diffusion coefficient predicted by the simulations showed reasonable agreement with the experimental data for systems containing hydrophobic penetrants and hydrophobic polymers. However, these numbers showed large disagreement when either the penetrant or the polymer was hydrophilic. This might be ascribed to force field inadequacies. The diffusion of both O2 and H2O in aqueous solutions of polyvinylpyrrolidinone at a variety of concentrations was studied by Eichinger and co-workers (328). [Pg.4823]

Different types of coating were also tested, with collagen and hyaluronic acid treatments being the most studied. In this case, even if the hydrophilicity was generally improved, this was not automatically followed by an increase in biocompatibility. Finally, the combination of plasma treatment and FN coating was found to give the most interesting results, especially in the proliferation of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). ... [Pg.42]
