Hydrolysis of Active Cobalt

The recovered material was washed with pentane, leaving a free-flowing dark gray solid that was very strongly ferromagnetic. 

Hydrolysis of a sample of the gummy material with concentrated hydrochloric acid gave a variety of hydrocarbons (see Table 15.2, run 2).
