More recendy, two different types of nonglass pH electrodes have been described which have shown excellent pH-response behavior. In the neutral-carrier, ion-selective electrode type of potentiometric sensor, synthetic organic ionophores, selective for hydrogen ions, are immobilized in polymeric membranes (see Membrane technology) (9). These membranes are then used in more-or-less classical glass pH electrode configurations.

Krupp Uhde (KU) know-how and technology is based on extensive experience in chlorine production and provides clients with short shutdown periods for the conversion of chlorine plants to membrane technology, low-energy consumption and includes special technologies for higher chlorine quality and hydrogen-free production. 

Below, we first briefly describe conventional hydrogen production. Then the combination of hydrogen production and CCS is described. Finally, we elaborate on two of the technologies for more efficient hydrogen production with C02 capture that are currently in the R D phase hydrogen membrane reactors and C02 sorption enhanced reactors.
