Hydrogen bond dynamics parameters

Various equations of state have been developed to treat association ia supercritical fluids. Two of the most often used are the statistical association fluid theory (SAET) (60,61) and the lattice fluid hydrogen bonding model (LEHB) (62). These models iaclude parameters that describe the enthalpy and entropy of association. The most detailed description of association ia supercritical water has been obtained usiag molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo computer simulations (63), but this requires much larger amounts of computer time (64—66). [Pg.225]

One of the most important characteristics of micelles is their ability to enclose all kinds of substances. Capture of these compounds in micelles is generally driven by hydrophobic, electrostatic and hydrogen-bonding interactions. The dynamics of solubilization into micelles are similar to those observed for entrance and exit of individual surfactant molecules, but the micelle-bound substrate will experience a reaction environment different from bulk water, leading to kinetic medium effects308. Hence, micelles are able to catalyse or inhibit reactions. The catalytic effect on unimolecular reactions can be attributed exclusively to the local medium effect. For more complicated bimolecular or higher-order reactions, the rate of the reaction is affected by an additional parameter the local concentrations of the reacting species in or at the micelle. [Pg.1080]

The molecular dynamics simulation indicated that, unlike polarization (which oscillates), the disruption of hydrogen bonding varies smoothly in the vicinity of the surface and constitutes therefore a better choice as an order parameter. There were a number of computational approaches13 14 16 and lattice model calculations17 which related the hydration force to the disruption of the hydrogen bonding networks when two surfaces approach each other. [Pg.476]
