Hydrides overlap region

Because the H-end of the cta i i antibond encloses no electronic core, the incoming ns donor orbital can overlap with practically the entire hydride end of the antibond, rather than merely the outer annular region that lies beyond the nodal boundary of the core region. 

The rhodium-hydride vibration disappears upon deuteration of the complex as the rhodium-deuteride vibration appears in the fingerprint region. The large frequency shift of the highest energy absorption is indicative of a trans-CO geometry [40]. In solution IR, the rhodium hydride vibration and the lowest energy CO vibration overlap, which results in only two absorptions. 

The figure depicts the electron clouds in a complete beryllium hydride molecule. Notice that the hydrogen Is orbitals are not hybridized here they are still spherical. The two bonds in beryllium hydride are the regions of overlap between the hydrogen 7s and beryllium sp hybrid orbitals. 

Another type of spectral interference is produced by elements in the sample combining with H+, 0+, or OH+ (either from water or air) to form molecular hydrides (+ H+), oxides (+ 0+), and hydroxides (+ OH+), which occur at 1, 16, and 17 mass units, respectively, higher than the element s mass. These interferences are typically produced in the cooler zones of the plasma, immediately before the interface region. They are usually more serious when rare earth or refractory-type elements are present in the sample, because many of them readily form molecular species (particularly oxides), which create spectral overlap problems on other elements in the same group. If the oxide species is mainly derived from entrained air around the plasma, it can be reduced by either using an elongated outer tube to the torch or a metal shield between the plasma and the RF coil.
