Hybrid polymers precursors

In the following chapter, Taviot-Gu ho and Leroux review the synthesis and structural features of nanocomposite materials prepared by the assembly of LDHs and polymers or polymer precursors and discuss how the properties of the resulting hybrid materials are related to their structure. 

They are well-defined building units for hybrid materials [50-52]. Those with mesogenic R groups can exhibit liquid crystal properties [53, 54], and those with polymerizable R groups (acrylate, epoxide, vinylic) can be copolymerized with organic polymer precursors. As a last example of the wide interest in this compounds, those with an incompletely condensed structure (open cage) or incorporating other metals can be models for zeolites and are used themselves as catalysts [55-57]. 

In the case of a reaction involving (A) + (D) precursors (Fig. 7-9), a linear hybrid polymer is obtained with the structure shown in Figure 7-10(a). The structure of the hybrid matrix is different when two OR groups are present on the central atom of the coupling agent (C). One can see in the matrix representation, Figure 7-10(b), that microvoids can form whose size depends on the size of the organic blocks formed by reaction...
