Both nitrogen atoms have steric number 4 and are sp hybridized, with H—N—H and H—N—N angles of approximately 109.5°. The extent of rotation about the N—N bond cannot be predicted from the VSEPR theory or the hybrid orbital model. The full three-dimensional structure of hydrazine is shown in Figure 6.46.
