Hybrid devices inorganic material

In a dual polymer ECD, the redox-active material at both electrodes is an electrochromic polymer, while in a hybrid device the material at the working electrode is an electrochromic polymer and the material at the counter electrode is an inorganic (e.g., WO3 or PB) or molecular organic (e.g., polyviologen) electrochrome [4,5,16,239,249,250]. 

New material classes, like carbon nanotubes, hybrid (organic - inorganic) material combinations and device architectures like organic CMOS technologies, offer new approaches to optimising the performance of devices. 

Therefore, numerous siloxane-based hybrid organic-inorganic materials have been developed in the past few years. This development yields many interesting new materials, with improved mechanical properties timable between those of glasses and those of polymers. Sol-gel processed hybrid materials such as, optical devices, new sensors and biosensors, new catalysts or membranes have been reported to have high efficiencly, good selectivity and stability (Lebeau, 1999).
