Human genome databases

Other databases, including DNA and protein databases, the Human Genome Database (GDB), and Medline. Two relatively new query systems in OMIM, OMIM Gene Map and OMDVt Morbid Map, provide cytogenetic map locations of diseases and gene lists organized by diseases, respectively. [Pg.20]

NF-AT nomenclature is varied and confusing in the literature. NF-ATc refers to the family of cytoplasmic, calcium-dependent, CsA/FK506-sensitive proteins that translocate to the nucleus to associate with nuclear partners, collectively referred to as NF-ATn. NF-ATn can vary. Human Genome Database nomenclature for the NF-ATc family members (which this chapter will follow) is as follows NF-ATcl = NF-ATc NF-ATc2 = NF-ATp or NF-AT1 NF-ATc3 = NF-AT4 or NF-ATx NF-ATc4 = NF-AT3. [Pg.260]

Shared databases are becoming the wellsprings of the scientific method. The human genome databases made it possible for genetic researchers to discover all that is known about particular sequences of human DNA base pairs simply by comparing a sequence with those already recorded in the database. The capture of the genetic sequences of all life forms will confer this power on anyone interested enough to ask the question. Similar scenarios may be painted for all scientific information. [Pg.407]

A database search reveals that YPClp and YDClp are not homologous to any proteins with known functions, but are homologous to putative proteins from Arabidoposis, C. elegans, peptides deduced from EST sequences of human, mouse, pig, zebra fish, and human genomic sequences. A human homologue has been identified and its cDNA has been cloned. Preliminary results show that this human homologue is also an alkaline ceramidase that selectively hydrolyzes phytoCer. [Pg.195]
