How to operate a flame atomic absorption spectrometer

You should only operate an FAAS system iiiuli t iliiecl supervision. The instrument should be located under a fume extraction hood. The spectrometer requires approximately 20 min to warm up before switching the gases on and using the instrument. 

Adjust the operating wavelength and slit width of the monochromator. This is done by cnnsiilling standard operating conditions, e.g. for load see Table 27.2. 

Decide what wavelength is to be used for the analysis. For lead llie maximum sensitivity is achieved by selecting 217.0 nm. 

Adjust the gain control until the energy motor reading reaches a maximum. 

Adjust the wavelength selector for maximum signal reading. You aro now ready to ignite the air-acetylene flame.
