Household appliances, energy-saving

It is also interesting to look into the future use of sensors in household appliances. An attempt to do this is made in Chapter 6 where the influence factors in this broad field are analyzed. These include socio-economic data of the end users (like age of the population) and their preferences (like savings of energy, water and detergents), ease of use and cost of ownership, as described in Chapter 6.1. In this sub-chapter we intend to give an overview of household appliances using the different gas sensor principles mentioned in the previous chapters. The appliances can be divided into two categories gas sensors for safety and for comfort. Natural gas and CO-alarm systems for example are safety-relevant whereas air quality measurement, control of self-cleaning of ovens etc. are more or less a matter of comfort or energy-saving. 

In Ukraine technical potential of solar energy for power production is estimated at about 16 TWh/yr that makes up in average about 3.3 m2 of PV batteries per capita with the production of about 100 kWh/m2/year. Provided that a dwelling is equipped with modem and promising energy saving household appliances, indicated volume of power production could satisfy necessary household needs. It is assumed for year 2030 the PV-power generation makes 2 TWh/year, and that for 2050 makes 9 TWh/year. 

In general, for household appliances, depending on the surface coverage of the cabinet and the panel thickness, energy savings from 10% to 30% have been reported using open cell PU foam-filled panels packaged in a 6 pm aluminium foil-based barrier [12, 15, 52, 56].
