Hope, John

In general a pattern of racially based, Anglo-Saxonist exclusivity dominated the years from 1840 to the 1920s, whereas a pattern of Caucasian unity gradually took its place in the 1920s and after. If discrimination is a fool s economy, as Education declared in 1946, then certain coin became increasingly rare in the decades leading up to the electoral victory of the Celtic presidential hopeful John F. Kennedy.2... [Pg.100]

It is to be hoped that the celebrant will enjoy perusing through the chemistry presented in his birthday present, and also that there will be a wide-ranging and appreciative readership. Finally, we all wish John D. Corbett a very happy birthday, ad multos annos. [Pg.351]

When John told his mother that I was with child, she had perforce to give us joy, but the sourness lingered in her voice. I got little help from her in the first, sickly weeks, but Mai said that the sickness heralded a boy, and this hope strengthened me to ignore her. By the fourth month I was in better health, and all still seemed to be well. [Pg.70]

I shall not know if you have pardoned me. lean only hope that you do. I go to my death in the hope of resurrection in the world to come. Almighty Jesu have you and yours in his safe keeping, most beloved sister, and God send you such health and happiness as the world can provide, knowing that it is but a grain of sand, by comparison to the joy of Heaven which by God s grace awaits us all. Written at Pontefract on the eve of the Nativity of John the Baptist and knowing the hour of my death. [Pg.385]

John Edsall passed awayjust as this volume was headed to press. It was hoped by the editors that this volume would be one of the 100th birthday presents that John would receive on November 3. This was not to be. [Pg.22]

In summary, I hope that Volume 45 of Annual Reports in Medicinal Chemistry continues to be a key reference for your medicinal chemistry pursuits. As Editor-in-Chief, I continue to look for ways to optimize, improve, and evolve the series. Please do not hesitate to contact me with suggestions for improving the series [john.macor bms.com]. Thank you. [Pg.1]

The uppermost bedrock in northwest Alberta consists of a Cretaceous succession of nearly horizontal and poorly-indurated marine shales of the Fort St. John Group (Loon River and Shaftesbury formations) and Smoky Group, separated by deltaic to marine sandstones of the Dunvegan Formation (Okulitch 2006). A large structural feature, the Great Slave Lake Shear Zone (GSLSZ) cuts across the study area (Eaton Hope 2003). [Pg.29]

DR. JOHN MALIN (National Science Foundation) I have been ruminating on a couple of points related to substitutional and electron transfer chemistry. I have been struck by the tremendous difference in the level of sophistication between theoretical treatments of electron transfer and what people know and can say about substitution. I think Professor Swaddle brought out some hopeful thoughts. It s going to be interesting to see what the theoreticians can do for us in understanding substitution processes. [Pg.150]

As this report went to press, the committee was saddened by the unexpected death of a committee member, Dr. John Hedges. Dr. Hedges extensive and thoughtful input to this report reflected his deep interest in this topic and his hopes that this report would meaningfully further the use of reference materials in the ocean sciences. His death is a great loss to the many individuals who knew him personally and to the chemical oceanography community as a whole. [Pg.13]
