The dimerization of 28 has also been studied by Prasad, who used Raman spectroscopy to monitor both changes in intermolecular vibrations and lattice phonon modes [73]. The Raman spectrum shows the disappearance of alkene stretches at 997, 1180, 1593, and 1625 cm-1 as expected, and the appearance of cyclobutane modes at 878,979, and 1001 cm-1. Phonon modes broadened as the reaction progressed, and bands around 15-40 cm-1 showed a shift in frequency. Between about 50 and 66% conversion it was difficult to define distinct bands, but after that point product bands grew in distinctly. This amalgamation behavior is good evidence for a homogeneous reaction mechanism. [Pg.225]

In homogeneous reaction mechanisms, PCDD and PCDF are considered to be formed from aromatie precursors at temperatures below 600°C with the aetive participation of OH radicals. [Pg.1395]

Various other kinds of departure from (5.8.7) and (5.8.8) can be observed. See Chapter 12 for a discussion concerning the diagnosis of prominent homogeneous reaction mechanisms. The large body of chronoamperometric theory for systems with coupled chemistry can be used directly to describe chronocoulometric experiments, because there are no differences in fundamental assumptions. The only differences are that the response is integrated in chronocoulometry and that the chronocoulometric experiment manifests more visibly the contributions from double-layer capacitance and electrode processes of adsorbates. [Pg.214]

Aluminum alkyls and related aluminum compounds are well-knovra catalysts for the oligomerization of ethylene. The catalytic potential is a consequence of the readiness with which a trivalent aluminum atom forms electron-deficient or so-called half, bonds. The kinetics of the homogeneous oligomerization of ethylene into 1-butene catalyzed by triethyl aluminum in the gas phase has been studied in Teflon-coated reactors at temperatures ranging between 160 and 230°C [17]. The catalyst is recovered quantitatively from the product mixture. The homogeneous reaction mechanism is summarized in the following reactions ... [Pg.8]

The selectivity of recombination reactions on a surface is controlled by the composition of the adsorbate layer. The concentrations of adsorbed species may vary with the reactivity of the catalytic surface, and so does the selectivity. Similar principles apply in homogeneous reaction mechanisms. [Pg.261]
