Higher supervision services On the specific control factors side of the chart, higher supervision services are evaluated to determine the adequacy of operational support provided. Here, the same factors are evaluated to determine the adequacy of support to the risk assessment effort. 

The items to evaluate to determine the adequacy of the controls designed to prevent unwanted energy flows and exposures to hazardous environments include the technical information system, maintenance and inspection programs, direct supervision and services provided by higher levels of supervision, and the functional operability of facilities (Fig. 18-11). 

In addition, if the school has a shop class or facility services area, it is likely that an acetylene torch may be present. Oxygen cylinders are used in conjunction with the acetylene fuel to permit higher temperatures for cutting and welding purposes. These cylinders should remain in locked areas at all times and should never be used without proper supervision. 

Due to the low-level contamination of the former controlled area the change to a supervised area was achieved with a relatively small amount of measurements. The total number of contamination measurements was 2316. Only 87 measurements showed values higher than 0.5 Bq/cm. All measurements were taken in the presence of members of the Technical Inspection Service.
