Higher Fullerenes beyond

For the higher fullerenes beyond C70 only a few examples of adducts with unambiguous structural characterizahon have been reported [2], For example, several Diels-Alder and malonate monoadducts of Dj-Cy have been isolated [10, 36], The addends are bound to a-type bonds of the fullerene framework. Nucleophilic cyclopropanahons of a 3 1 mixture of and D3-C78 with a slight excess of diethyl... [Pg.380]

Experimental structural information on the empty fullerenes beyond C92 is very scarce and usually limited to the mixtures of isomers. X-ray crystallographic study of C94(CF3)2o and C96(C2F5)i2 obtained by perfluoroalkylation of the higher fuUerene mixture with subsequent HPLC separation proved formation of C94-C2(61) and G96-Ci(145) isomers in the arc-discharge synthesis (Tamm et al. 2009a), but these data are inconclusive since the actual isomeric composition of the initial fullerene mixture remains unknown. Yet, a lot of calculations were performed for larger fullerenes, and systematic information on the lowest energy isomers is available up to Ciso. [Pg.683]

Example II Fullerene soots as obtained by the Huffman-Kratschmer synthesis [140] can be characterized by positive- as well as negative-ion LDI-MS [135]. Such LDI spectra can exhibit fullerene molecular ion signals well beyond m/z 3000 among these, Ceo and are clearly accentuated (Fig. 11.17). Furthermore, such samples provide experimental carbon-only isotopic patterns over a wide mass range (Chap. 3.2.1). The spectrum below was obtained on a FT-ICR mass spectrometer hence the resolution is 175,000 at m/z 840, i.e., almost by a factor of 1000 higher than on early TOF instruments as used for the discovery of... [Pg.527]
