Another form of radiationless relaxation is internal conversion, in which a molecule in the ground vibrational level of an excited electronic state passes directly into a high vibrational energy level of a lower energy electronic state of the same spin state. By a combination of internal conversions and vibrational relaxations, a molecule in an excited electronic state may return to the ground electronic state without emitting a photon. A related form of radiationless relaxation is external conversion in which excess energy is transferred to the solvent or another component in the sample matrix. [Pg.425]

The state splittings discussed above for rl are based on individual reactants which, aside from the bond length constraint (r1 ), are otherwise non-interacting. If we now consider the full initial and final states associated with the exchange reaction (Equations 2-7), we note that the relative energies of high-spin and low-spin states in the bimolecular transition-state complex may be affected by differences in initial and final state coupling, as represented by the electron-transfer matrix element, Hj f, discussed in the introduction. While for the "three-electron ... [Pg.386]

We proceed to present a model, appropriate to understand the conditions, which steer the alternative appearance of Cu in the cubic high-spin A2g t2g eg ) ground state, and in the diamagnetic Aig [eg big aig ) electronic configuration. The d-d spectra of the Cu Fe polyhedron in an elpasolite matrix, and of an hexa-coordinated complex with the isoelectronic Ni cation in a fluoridic host solid, are displayed in Fig. 14. The lowest-energy Aig iEg) triplet-singlet transition occurs at al.9eV for Ni " ", but this energy is substantially lowered to about I.25 eV in the case of Cu - due to an enhanced nephelauxetic effect by the pronounced Cu — O bond covalence. [Pg.475]

Both the Slater and the rrkm treatments are inappropriate for calculations of °°, since the dissociation is not characterized by a critical extension of one bond, but rather by the transition from one potential surface to another. In such a case the observed activation energy at high pressures will be lower than the energy threshold for reaction110. From their high-pressure data Olschewski et a/.109 calculate that E0 = 63 kcaLmole-1 and that the transition matrix-element is 100 caLmole-1, which is in good agreement with the spin-orbit interaction term for O atoms. [Pg.70]

One must take enough psilocybin to allow the sound to be audible. This sound we understand to be the Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) of the psilocybin alkaloids within the mushroom. The presence of rapidly metabolizing high-energy tryptamines within the ayahuasca acts as an antenna that sensitizes the neural matrix to the spin resonance energy of the Stropharia psilocybin. It is this principle that allows the signal to be made audible. It must then be amplified via the tryptamine admixture antenna to what is felt to be its fullest amplitude. Then, via vocal sound, this energy is placed into the harmine complex within the body and within the mushroom which has been, in some small part,... [Pg.69]
