Segelman et aL (24) have very recently drawn attention to e fact that herbal teas can interfere with the absorption of various drugs, mainly by reason of their tarmin content. They also draw attention to the presence in some such teas of sassafras root bark, one of the main constituents of which (safrele) is a hepatotoxin and hepatocar-cinogen. In their view the latter constituent not only presents direct risks to the user of such teas, but may also result in interference with the hepatic metabolism of other drugs simultaneously. [Pg.374]
