Hen runs

I led him across the lawn and under the apple trees, with his bike wheels making a snake-trail after us in the wet grass. I pointed out the well, the hen run, the stump on the elm where a branch had broken when Izzy was climbing it, and she fell off and broke her arm, too. 

When I got home, Izzy was back lying on her front by the hen run, drawing. Obviously Aunt Elaine hadn t spotted her, because she wasn t on a rug but flat down on the wet grass. Her legs were across the path and I couldn t get my bike past. 

Further criteria nest appetite and acceptance, disposition to cannibalism and feather pecking, feather quality, proportion of broody hens, unwanted behaviour in general (nervousness, flying in the hen run)... 

There are basically two methods of rotational system. Either the rotation is done approximately every fortnight, depending on how highly the hen run is used and how quickly the plants grow, or the change is done annually after the flock is replaced. The first method is better for ensuring a high turf quality.

Although indoor systems of egg production are much cheaper to run than outdoor organic systems, due to higher egg production per hen per year and to lower feed costs, poultry longevity can be increased outdoors, which will lower the cost of replacement birds. Thompson (1978) tested his future breeding stock in an outdoor environment which had carried hens continuously for many years, with a consequent build-up of disease. Those pullets which survived became the foundation stock. 

Several standard-sized alternative egg-laying breeds are available worldwide. In the USA this includes Rhode Island Reds, New Hampshires, Barred and White Plymouth Rock, and Buff Orpingtons. There appears to be a lack of published peer-reviewed research comparing the productivity of these breeds in an organic production system. Many organic egg producers in the USA keep a flock for multiple years and run multiple ages together. The choice of a different coloured breed each year makes it possible to keep track of the age of each of the hens in these flocks. 

Ile-27, runs to Asp-88, and is partially occupied by water molecules. The channel is blocked by Tyr-103 (which is in the cleft region). There are corresponding cavities in hen egg-white lysozyme. The second cavity in the vicinity of Ser-91 is occupied by internal water molecules in egg-white lysozyme. This residue becomes Asp (residue 88) in a-lactalbumin. Due to calcium binding properties in a-lactalbumin, the locations of internal water molecules are somewhat different from those in lysozymes that do not bind calcium. 

We often have sore eyes from particles of dross of sparks from black pov/der. V.hen this happens wash the eyes in running water. 

The creation/annihilation operators aj /a, denote the one-particle operators which diagonalize the Hamiltonian Hen. The summation indices i, j, k, l denote the usual set of one-electron quantum numbers and run over positive-energy states only. The quantities Vjju are two-electron Coulomb matrix elements and the quantities biju denote two-electron Breit matrix elements, respectively. We specify their static limit (neglecting any frequency dependence) ... 

Free roaming or a run You can allow your hens to wander freely around your yard every day, as they will find their way back to their roost at night. Keep their food and water in their house to deter wild birds. If the chickens are under threat from predators during the day, use a run to protect them, and move it to a new site every so often. 

The house must be vermin-proof and provide 16 sq in (40 sq cm) of space for each hen. Don t use creosote to paint any bird or animal houses, as it is toxic. If you don t want to let your birds run free-range, their run should be as large as possible (ideally 24 sq ft/8 sq m for a few birds) and covered with strong chicken wire. Always keep the hen house clean.
