Troubleshooting heater

The following firetube heater troubleshooting tips are provided by the GPS A data book (see Figure 1). 

Fired heaters. When the process temperature and the heat duty are high, a fired heater is occasionally used as a forced-circulation reboiler. Fired heater technology is outside the scope of this distillation book, and the reader is referred to review articles (30, 319) as well as some troubleshooting guidelines (237, 239) on this subject. The ISOM operators were troubleshooting operations when they received, via radio, the first notification that the blowdown dram was overflowing. In response operators used the computerized control system to shnt the flow of fuel to the heater, while the other operators left the satellite control room and ran to redirect traffic away from the blowdown drum [15] (see Fig. 4.6).
