Heat exchanger tube configuration

The simplest configuration for a recuperative heat exchanger is the metallic radiation recuperator (Fig. 27-57). The inner tube carries the hot exhaust gases and the outer tube carries the combustion air. The bulk of the heat transfer from the hot gases to the surface of the inner tube is by radiation, whereas that from the inner tube to the cold combustion air is predominantly by convection. [Pg.2407]

The Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Assn, has established heat exchanger standards and nomenclature. Every shell-and-tube device has a three-letter designation the letters refer to the specific type of stationary head at the front end, the shell type, and the rear-end head type, respectively (a fully illustrated description can be found in the TEMA standards). Common TEMA designations are listed with specific configurations described below. [Pg.27]

Most boiler plants with electrical power generating facilities employ surface condensers. These are shell-and-tube heat exchangers in either one-, two-, or four-pass configurations. Surface condensers typically receive cooling water on the tube-side and steam on the shell-side of the heat exchanger. The LP turbine steam generally is received at the top of the condenser and proceeds through the condenser in a downward flow, while the FW turbine exhaust steam enters at the side. [Pg.116]

Stainless steel is the material of choice for process chemistry. Consequently, stainless steel microreactors have been developed that include complete reactor process plants and modular systems. Reactor configurations have been tailored from a set of micromixers, heat exchangers, and tube reactors. The dimensions of these reactor systems are generally larger than those of glass and silicon reactors. These meso-scale reactors are primarily of interest for pilot-plant and fine-chemical applications, but are rather large for synthetic laboratories interested in reaction screening. The commercially available CYTOS Lab system (CPC 2007), offers reactor sizes with an internal volume of 1.1 ml and 0.1 ml, and modular microreactor systems (internal reactor volumes 0.5 ml to... [Pg.6]
