Heart attitude

Enthusiasm for the mentee involves having a very positive attitude towards him or her, and having the mentee s best interests at heart. Mentors should genuinely believe in the mentee s potential to improve his or her performance. They must also take the mentee s problems, desires and aspirations seriously.

Communication is paramount, both with patients and with other health care professionals, particularly physicians. It has been said that poor communication and emotional issues are at the heart of nearly all medical malpractice actions.Interdisciplinary communication is vital to ease the passage of pharmacists into expanded prescribing roles good communication will enhance collaboration in patient care and diminish perceived threats to physicians autonomy and authority. Obviously, expanded clinical roles for pharmacists will require increased patient contact and strong communication skills. If the patient and the pharmacist fail to understand each other, the pharmacist s risk of liability is increased. 

Attitudes may fink to behavior. For example, one may have attitudes about another person, such as a supervisor. Attitudes may not predict behavior. In some cases a person may know an action will have bad effects, but continue to do it. Some call this cognitive dissonance. An example is a person who knows that smoking can lead to heart and lung disease, but continues to smoke.
