Levels -All areas and equipment are posted with caution or dango signs that describe the potential hazard and measures to be tak. Signs are highly visible and positioned at entrances and on the paiphay of potential noise-hazardous areas. The Occupational Noise Exposure Standard and Hearing Conservation Amendment are posted in all potential noise-hazardous areas. Applicable 85 dBA and 140 dBP contours are established. 

Audiometry has been a key element in hearing conservation programs (HCP) since before the Hearing Conservation Amendment was enacted in 1981. Until recent emphasis on hearing loss prevention, results of audiometric testing were often the only measure of HCP effectiveness. 

Amendment was implemented. What works isn t that much of a mystery anymore. Many of our programs have implemented what could be called best practices. So, why aren t these best practices more widely implemented and why aren t hearing conservation programs in general more effective ... 

Another possible reason that a see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil period persisted was the lack of a clear role for conservation. Scientists were busy quantifying the impacts to biogeochemical processes and impacts on species wherever possible, and policy was aided, and some would say driven, largely by society s response to the negative human impacts that were occurring. The Clean Air Act and its amendments were passed largely without the aid of the conservation community. Apathy in the conservation world could persist at minimal cost when there was no obvious role or need.
