Handheld readers

In our recent articles, we described the detection of a food-borne pathogen. Vibrio cholerae, which causes cholera disease. The assay relied on detection of Vibrio cholerae-specihc PCR amplicons using an electrochemical genosensor on screen-printed carbon chips. The signal was measured by intermittent pulse amperometiy (IPA) using a portable handheld reader AndCare (Alderon, Durham, NC).

RFID readers can be classified using two different schemes. First, the readers can be classified based on their location as handheld readers and fixed readers. Second, the tags can be classified based upon the frequency in which they operate—single frequency and multi-fiequenr. ... 

Weight of the reader is an important factor if the reader is mobile or handheld because it should be handy and should not cause inconvenience for its user.
