Components of cigarettes/tobacco are hepatic enzyme inducers (mainly CYP1A2), leading to a decrease in haloperidol serum levels (haloperidol is also metabolized by CYP1A2) and established data suggest that the average serum levels of haloperidol are about halved.

Smokers of tobacco or cannabis may possibly need lai er doses of chlorpromazine, fluphenazine, haloperidol or tiotixene than non-smokers.
