Hagen studies

Diazotization of A-heteroaromatic amines may result in hydrolytic opening of the heterocycle, as shown by the examples in Schemes 6-36 and 6-37 which were studied by the group of Ulsaker and Undheim (Hagen et al., 1974 Ranger et al., 1978) and by Davies and Jones (1970).

As with vinylsilanes and alkynylsilanes, substitution is favoured over addition for allylsilanes. However, this can be affected by the steric and electronic effects of the silicon substituents. Mayr and Hagen have studied the reactivities of allylsilanes towards the p-methoxy substituted diphenylcarbocation (Scheme 7)136. 37 Relative rate data and observed products are summarized in Table 11 for allylsilanes of the structures 119-122, with various silicon substituents.

Anderson and Avery proposed that the same intermediate for isomerization was also responsible for hydrogenolysis of isobutane (47), but very recently Hagen and Somorjai have studied reactions of isobutane and propane on Pt and Ir catalysts in which Au was incorporated in increasing amounts. They concluded from the results that the sites responsible for isomerization are distinct from those causing hydrogenolysis (53a).

Interestingly one study which reported no significant difference between vitamin Bg (100 mg per day) and placebo, showed that whichever treatment was used second in a double-blind crossover trial was significantly better than the treatment used first (Hagen et al., 1985).
