Guide to the Asbestos

A guide to the Asbestos (Licensing) Reguiations, 1983, as amended (second edition) L11, 1999, HSE Books iSBN 07176 24358... [Pg.386]

When an air sample is taken, the industrial hygienist can aid the microscopist by referencing the sample number of the bulk samples to corresponding air samples. If the industrial hygienist has reason to believe asbestos is not present, he may request analysis of the bulk samples first. If asbestos is not found, the air samples may not need analysis, or possibly the analysis could be carried out on a statistical sampling basis with results on the first samples analyzed to be taken as a guide to whether further sampling is needed. [Pg.15]

This section will describe clinical practice and research concerning methods for reducing toxic effects of exposure to asbestos. However, because some of the treatments discussed may be experimental and unproven, this section should not be used as a guide for treatment of exposures to asbestos. When specific exposures have occurred, poison control centers and medical toxicologists should be consulted for medical advice. [Pg.135]

Aluminum, cyanide, molybdenum, nickel, silver, sodium, asbestos, and zinc are other inorganic chemicals that may contaminate drinking water supplies. The risks associated with these chemicals are relatively less either due to their rare occurrence in water or because the health risk associated with their presence is of limited concern. Nevertheless, government standards and the WHO guide values have been established for most of these chemicals. [Pg.18]
