This is the approach taken here. The research effort - termed the Evergreen Research Program for its emphasis on determining what factors account for sustained growth in performance - is the largest study of firm performance ever undertaken (Joyce, Nohria, Roberson, 2003). It provides a new and important perspective on growth both as a means to profitability and as an end in itself. 

All flooded paper materials—books, periodicals, documents, rare books, files, and records—were frozen as quickly as possible to prevent biological growth. A restoration effort to save the library s contents and a parallel on-site applied conservation research program were established. The goal of this research program was to develop, whenever possible, new techniques and to improve traditional methods for restoring flood-damaged library materials (1). 

Determination of the biochemical pathways associated with nutrient partitioning to muscle, bone, fat, and other animal tissues and organs through research programs will facilitate the subsequent engineering of nutrient distribution and regulation of animal growth. 

Attainment of these growth rates over the next decade will require expansion of our present research programs, with consequent development and introduction of many new products, a very large volume of new investment, restraint of price increases, restraint on the expansion of nondefense activities of the Federal Government, and a substantial rise in employment. 

The first operational system for searching a 3-D database of nontrivial size was reported in 1987 (78) since then, the field of 3-D searching has been extremely rapid growth, and there are already several documented examples of the utility of 3-D searching in real research programs, as discussed in Section IV.
