Group transfer polymerisation

This is the repeated catalysed addition of monomer to a growing polymer chain and which carries a reactive silyl ketene acetal group. During the addition reaction, the silyl group transfers to the incoming monomer. This generates a new ketene acetal function for reaction with more monomCT. [Pg.387]

Catalysts are bifluoride salts, Lewis acids and various oxyanions. The reaction is carried out in solvents such as THF, chlorobenzene and toluene. [Pg.387]

It is well known that AB diblock copolymers form micelles in solvents that are selective for one of the blocks. By varying the nature of the solvent, it is also possible to form micelles with the A block in the core or with the B block in the core. However, we have recently demonstrated that certain hydrophilic AB diblock copolymers can form either A-core micelles or B-core micelles in aqueous media. In the original example, both blocks were based on tertiary amine methacrylates and the diblock copolymer was prepared by group transfer polymerisation, a special type of anionic polymerisation which is particularly... [Pg.25]

Stopped-flow FTIR spectroscopy was used to follow group transfer polymerisation (GTP) and cyclic oligomeric carbonate formation. The effect of catalyst structure, propagating end stereochemistry and degree of polymerisation on the rate of monomer addition in GTP was investigated (329). [Pg.23]

Similar results were obtained with a blend of chain-end labelled PMMA (prepared by group transfer polymerisation) and an immiscible partner, poly(2-ethylhexyl methacrylate), of low T, (263 K) [36],... [Pg.248]

Block copolymers of PDMS and methacrylates are not accessible by sequential monomer addition. However, a methacrylate-terminated PDMS was reacted with EtMe2SiH to form the macroinitiator silyl ketene acetal-terminated PDMS, which is a group transfer polymerisation initiator. TBABB catalysed the polymerisation in THF at RT of tBMA and TMSA (9 < MJ (kg/mol) < 29 1.15 < Mw/M < 1.32) [23]. [Pg.42]
