Groundwater triazine degradation products

LC/MS/MS with selected reaction monitoring and ESI in the negative-ion mode was used to detect RDX and its degradation products in contaminated groundwater [18]. The detected degradation products were MNX (hexahydro-l-nitroso-3,5-dinitro-l,3,5-triazine), DNX (hexahydro-l,3-dinitroso-5-nitro-l,3,5-triazine) and TNX (hexahydro-l,3,5-trinitroso-l,3,5-triazine). The [M + 75] and [M + 45] were the most intense ions in the mass spectra of RDX and its degradation products. In the CID mass spectra, the base peak for RDX, MNX and DNX... [Pg.156]

A number of major studies to analyze triazine herbicides and their degradation products (i.e., metabolites) in water have been carried out by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), Water Resources Division, in the Toxic Substances Hydrology Program. These studies investigated four major water resources - groundwater, surface water, reservoirs, and precipitation. [Pg.451]

Since triazines are very mobile in the aquatic environment, the presence of these pesticide types in groundwater samples could be confirmed. Pollution was observed when neutral pesticides contained in shallow groundwater samples from two sandy and two clay catchment areas were analysed in APCI mode [351]. The most frequently (> 300 samples) determined compound was atrazine with its degradation products. [Pg.795]

An interesting example on the question of by-products is provided by the surface and groundwater contamination by pesticides. Triazines are among the most abvmdant pesticides and since 1997, atrazine has been found in more than 50% of samples of both surface water and groundwater, while its degradation product, desethylatrazine, is the most frequently found (about half of all analyses). Other frequently found herbicides include diuron and isoproturon (urea substitute... [Pg.260]
