Gross consignment

Thus, when a property of the sample (which exists as a large volume of material) is to be measured, there usually will be differences between the analytical data derived from application of the test methods to a gross lot or gross consignment and the data from the sample lot. This difference (the sampling error) has a frequency distribution with a mean value and a variance. Variance is a statistical term defined as the mean square of errors the square root of the variance is more generally known as the standard deviation or the standard error of sampling. [Pg.167]

Annex B. Part I consists of a general section which specifies the gross consignment weights of materials from all classes for which many of the provisions do not apply. In addition, there are six listed sections... [Pg.130]

The process of sampling, which may vary from a 2 ton domestic consignment to a 165 000 ton export shipment, involves obtaining a number of increments (spot samples, the product of a single action of the sampling device) that are combined to form one or several gross samples. Gross samples may then be crushed and subsampled (subdivided) to provide the analytical sample. [Pg.758]

Standard methods for obtaining coal samples specify minimum numbers of increments required to form a gross sample, based on a consignment... [Pg.758]
