Teeth grinding

Cattle feeding on herbage containing 25-50 mg/kg (ppm wt) lead develop excitable jerking of muscles, frothing at the mouth, grinding of teeth, and paralysis of the larynx muscles a "roaring" noise is caused by the paralysis of the muscles in the throat and neck. 

Parasomnias are characterized by undesirable physical or behavioral phenomena that occur during sleep [e.g., sleepwalking, sleep talking, bruxism (grinding of teeth), enuresis, night terrors, and RBD]. RBD patients act out their dreams during sleep, often in a violent manner.

The constructions of the teeth of an adult human and herbivorous animals are illustrated in Fig. 14.1. Both types of teeth consist of an enamel portion, a dentine portion, and a cementum portion [4]. The enamel portion consists of 97% hydroxyapatite, 2% protein, and a small amount of carbonate the dentine consists of 30% hydroxyapatite, and 70% protein and water and the cementum contains an inorganic part below 30%, around 10-20%. The enamel is compact and hard, and assists in the cutting and grinding of food, whereas the dentine and cement portions are softer, are more permeable, and support the enamel region. Sadly, there are a few exceptions to the tidy picture presented by the Aufbau filling diagram. Copper, chromium, and palladium are notable examples (see Chapter 22 for details). There is a truism athletes face often without realizing it. You are what you absorb, not just what you eat. When you eat whole /complete protein source food such as round steak, your teeth grind up the fibers into smaller pieces. If you do not chew your food, digestive enzymes /juices fail to access enough area of these fibers to fully break them down. Stimulants first may cause exhilaration and hyperactivity, dilated pupils, then produce irritability, anxiety, apprehension, and insomnia.
