Graphics standards

It is clear, then, that not all hexane-d2 is the result of simple addition of deuterium to the original double bond but considerably more detailed work and the use of specifically labeled deuterohexanes as mass spectro-graphic standards would be needed properly to unravel this matter. 

A problem CAS intends to address is that different software is now used to handle chemical structures for different purposes. Ideally, one set of software would handle chemical structure input and storage serving the multiple purposes of substance registration, publication in ACS services and in STN International, and structure query input to STN International. The emerging graphics standards and advances in graphics tools will help CAS solve the problem. 

The main points are that CDS is hierarchical, uses relative coordinates, and has a variety of picture elements It is not specific to chemical structures Conveniently, CDS graphics elements are primitives similar to the GKS graphics standard In the future, CAS could develop an automated software conversion between them ...

Watson, D. 2001. Architectural Details Classic Pages from Architectural Graphic Standards. New York Wiley. Watson compiled selections from the 1940 to 1980 editions of Architectural Graphic Standards, classic works by Charles Ramsey and Harold Sleeper. This volume may be used to complement a basic textbook. 

Architectural Graphic Standards, 11 ed. 2007. Hoboken, NJ John Wiley Sons. A core reference work, this title ranains the premier source for building design and construction information. 

Computer graphics standards are discussed in an earlier ACS Symposium Series Book 1,2). In the present book, the reader is particularly referred to Chapter 3, by Smith, for a detailed exposition of trends and standards in hardware, operating systems and environments, and applications software. Smith also examines the implications for chemical information.
