It is another way you can increase the overall loudness of the track without causing clipping.

The Ratio slider sets the slope of the compression line, raising and lowering the final node on the graph. The zero line is at a ratio of 1 1, resulting in no compression. A 2 0 ratio above 124 dB means that for every 2 dB increase in gain above 124 dB, the gain will be rednced 1 dB. So 122 dB signals will be lowered to 123 dB, 112 dB In to 118 dB Ont and 0 dB In to -12 dB Out.
