The Gmelin-Institut has commenced publication of volumes in the 8th edition of Gmelin s Handbuch der anorganische Chemie specifically concerned with organometallic compounds. The first volume describes the derivatives of vanadium and chromium. 

The history of Gmelins Handbuch der anorganischen Ghemie and the plans and services of the Gmelin-Institut were described by Pietsch (19) on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Gmelin s death.
