Glue bond

The strength of a glue bond depends on various parameters ... [Pg.1081]

When glue bonds will have to be able to withstand high temperatures, attention should be paid to the following ... [Pg.285]

Wood Extractives. Glue bonds can be affected in many ways by extraneous components on or near the surface of wood. Chen (56) showed that extractive removal did improve bond performance and that the extractives, in part, reduce wettability. This effect is reflected also in Figure 2 from Jordan and Wellons (29). Hergt and Christensen (57) also showed that extractives can slow water adsorption from the adhesive into the wood, thus slowing development of cohesion in the adhesive. [Pg.169]

They require an excellent glue bond as denser woods move more in service. [Pg.407]

Aydin, I. Activation of wood surfaces for glue bonds by mechanical pretreatment and its effects on some properties of veneer surfaces and plywood panels. Applied Surface Science 2004,233 (1=4), 268-274. [Pg.209]

Most empirical estimates of glue-bond quality evaluate adhesion and cohesion simultaneously by applying combinations of thermal, mechanical, or chemical stress to the bonded assembly. Northcott (45) reported on a major study conq>arlng the... [Pg.159]

Phenol resins have found their ways to numerous applications in varying markets wood glues, bonding agents for mineral and glass fibers, laminates, molded parts, coatings, inks, rubbers, matrix materials for grinding and brake composites. Their... [Pg.842]

Dried films deposited from solutions are continuous, resilient, and noncrystalline, and develop shear tensile strength in excess of 3000 psi on glue-bonded wooden blocks indeed, tensile strengths as high as 10,000 psi have been reported for glue films. [Pg.127]
