The neutralization of a reaction mixture by caustic soda releases 120k] I 1 of final reaction mixture. The batch size is 1200 liters of final reaction mass in a glass-lined stirring vessel equipped with a jacket for cooling with water entering the jacket at 17 °C. Are the Glasses You Have to Work with Compatible (see Sec. 1.1.5) Trying to repair a small leak in a vacuum line made of borosilicate glass by filling a hole with a soda-lime glass will result in an entire day of repair by a qualified person instead of the half-hour originally required. 

Important factors in the selection of the substrate material are planarity, ease of sealing cost, and the consideration that soda-lime glass substrates, unlike quartz, cannot be processed in a regular silicon line. 

Reaction step III is A-acyl at ion. It is conveniently carried out in a refluxing chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon the hydrogen chloride gas which is evolved should be scrubbed in aqueous caustic soda. Precautions are necessary when handling the highly corrosive chloroacetyl chloride. This step should be carried out in a glass lined reactor. 

The gases can be introduced into the vessel by the use of an all-metal system or a Kel-F lubricated-glass vacuum system equipped with a fluorine-resistant pressure gagef and a soda-lime trap to protect the vacuum pump.
