Filter the product at the pump, using an alkali-resisting filter-paper, or a sintered glass filter-funnel. Wash the crystals on the filter with a small quantity of ethanol to remove the purple colour, and then drain thoroughly. 

Rare-earth compounds containing lanthanum are extensively used in carbon lighting applications, especially by the motion picture industry for studio lighting and projection. In principle, mixed oxide membranes can be prepared by mixing of the individual sols or co-hydrolysis or co-polymerization of respective alkoxides. Mixing of different sols is often used to prepare mixed oxide membranes. For example, a sol made from hydrolyzing Si(OC2Hs)4 is mixed with another sol from the hydrolysis of 2i(OCiHrj)4, The resulting mixed sols can then be used to prepare water- and alkali-resistant porous glass membranes.

Glass fiber filters are utilized in dust removal technology. Alkali resistant AR-glass fibers are utilized in the reinforcement of cement for nonloadbearing applications, because E-glass fibers are destroyed by the alkalinity of the bonding cement.
