Geranylgeraniol

A repetition of the process just shown produces the diterpene geranylgeraniol from farnesyl pyrophosphate... [Pg.1089]

Miquel, K., Pradines, A., Terce, F., Sehni, S., and Favre, G., 1998, Compehhve inhibition of choline phosphotransferase by geranylgeraniol and famesol inhibits phosphatidylchohne synthesis and induces apoptosis in human lung adenocarcinoma A549 ceUs. JBiol Chem. 273 26179-26186... [Pg.225]

The diterpenes ferruginol and hinokiol [104, 105], geranylgeraniol, tepre-none and phytol [106] showed antibacterial activity. iS-Hydroxykaurenoic acid produced permeabilisation of the cell membrane of the fungi Botrytis cinerea [107, 108]. [Pg.89]

One of the simplest and most significant of the diterpenes is phytol, a reduced form of geranylgeraniol, which constitutes the lipophilic side-chain of the chlorophylls. Phytol also forms a part of vitamin E (tocopherols) and K molecules. Vitamin A is also a 20-carbon-containing compound, and can be regarded as a diterpene. However, vitamin A is formed from a cleavage of a tetraterpene. Among the medicinally important diterpenes, paclitaxel, isolated from Taxus brevifolia (family Taxaceae), is one of the most successful anticancer drugs of modern time. [Pg.343]

Linum stelleroides Planch. L. usitatissimum L. YaMa (Flax) (whole plant) Fatty acids, geranylgeraniol, cholesterol, campesterol, orientin, stigmasterol, avenasterol, vitexin cycloartenol, eikosanol, leucine, valine, linamarin, lotaustralin.48 For diarrhea, sensitive skin, itchiness, loss of hair. [Pg.101]

Boron trifluoride etherate promotes the fWt/a-selcctivc oxacyclization of polyepoxides derived from various acyclic terpenoid polyalkenes, including geraniol, farnesol, and geranylgeraniol, providing an efficient and stereoselective synthesis of substituted oxepanes and fused polyoxepanes. The oxacyclization transformations may mimic ringforming steps in the biosynthesis of trans-syn-trans-fused polycyclic ether marine natural products <2002JOC2515>. [Pg.71]

Isopentenyl pyrophosphate acts as an alkylating agent toward famesyl pyrophosphate. Alkylation is followed by loss of a proton from the carbocation intermediate, giving geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate. Hydrolysis of the pyrophosphate yields geranylgeraniol. [Pg.735]
