Geraniol rose odour

Purify geraniol by fractional distillation. It has a sweet rose odour when pure, and the UV has... [Pg.681]

The soft rose-like and similar odours of the di-olefinic alcohols of the geraniol type. [Pg.35]

Geraniol is a colourless liquid of sweet odour, recalling that of the rose, principally, and to a lesser extent the pelargonium. It is an open-chain alcohol, having one of the two following constitutional formulae -t-... [Pg.108]

Cinnamic alcohol has an odour, not very powerful, but exceedingly delicate, recalling roses and hyacinths, in which types of perfume it is exceedingly useful. It is fairly soluble in dilute alcohol, and can to some extent be separated from alcohols of the geraniol type by means of 30 per cent, alcohol. [Pg.129]

For this sample the results show identification of 13 major components out of 289, making up 81.25% of the total components. The volatile monoterpene -pinene (peak 1) is the first off the column. The alcohols citronellol (10) and geraniol (11) are responsible for the odour characteristics of geranium, which is lifted and activated by the two rose oxides (2 and 3). The 6,9-guaiadiene (7) is a non-terpene hydrocarbon that acts as a back note but it is not a powerful odour. Component 12 is geranyl butyrate component 13 is epi—eudesmol. Chromatograms and data supplied by Jenny Warden of Traceability. [Pg.100]

Formerly palmarosa oil was almost the only adulterant used. To-day geraniol, citronellol, and similar bodies are used to the exclusion of the crude palmarosa oil. It is surprising that an industry of so much importance should have been allowed to go on for so many years fettered by two such great evils firstly, the enormous adulteration practised, secondly, the defective methods of preparation, resulting in the spoiling of the fine odour of much of the otto. Although climate and soU have so great an influence on the yield and quality of the oil, there can be no doubt that there are localities where rose cultivation and distillation could be carried on in a scientific as well as an honest way. [Pg.393]
