Geraniaceae

Geranium pratense is native to Europe and northern Asia, and extends into tropical east Asia. The succulent Pelargoniums are largely African. [Pg.24]

The separation characteristics of unmodified silica, diol, cyano, cellulose and RP-18 stationary phases were compared for the analysis of ellagitannins, gallotannins and flavonoid glycosides in the aerial parts of Erodium cicutarum (Geraniaceae) (stork s bill). Its decoction has been used in cases of dysentery, fever, wounds and worm infections. The air-dried and powdered plant material (300 g) was extracted three times with water-acetone (1 1, v/v) at ambient temperature. The collected extract was filtered and concentrated. The aqueous phase was acidified to pH 3 with formic acid and separated in an ODS column. Polphenols... [Pg.147]

There are several members of the Geranium family (Geraniaceae), some of which have been anecdotally reported to have anxiolytic or sedative effects. However, there is a paucity of research to support the use of this herb as a CNS depressant (Manolov et al. 1977 Tasev et al. 1969). [Pg.246]

Altogether 36 anthocyanins with one or two acetyl groups have been identified (Appendix A). The number given in parenthesis shows the number of anthocyanins reported as novel pigments in species in the various families Verbenaceae (8), Liliaceae (5), Geraniaceae (6), Vitaceae (5), Nymphaeaceae (5), Alliaceae (1), Theaceae (1), Rutaceae (1), Melastomataceae (1), Labiatae (1), Leguminosae (1), and Blechnaceae (1). [Pg.502]
