GeR4 Compounds with R Cycloalkyl

Tetracyclopropylgermanium has been prepared from GeC and c-CgHgMgBr in THF under reflux overnight. Purification may be effected by vacuum distillation [1]. 

IR and Raman spectra of the neat liquid are depicted in [3]. A selection of assigned vibrations based on approximate D2d symmetry is given in Table 7.

The dipole moment of the compound, p = 2.6 0.2 D in cyclohexane, is higher than that of the corresponding compounds of Si and Sn. The very high value in C6H0, p = 3.4 + 0.2 D, suggests an interaction with the solvent [3]. 

The mass spectrum contains the molecular ion [M]+ and the fragments [M —C3H5]+ and [M-2C3H51+ [1].
