The membranes can also be reinforced to improve the durability of the material and prevent over-elongation of the membrane. Other t5q>es of materials and membranes are available and a specific assessment should be made where these materials are proposed (e.g. liquid applied membranes and aluminium bonded to geotextile membranes). The disadvantages and points to consider for various types of membrane are provided in Table 7.3. 

Fig. 20.14 presents potential failure modes that should be assessed for geotextile bag revetments. These deal with external stability (Fig. 20.14(a)), internal stability (Fig. 20.14(b)) and durability (Fig. 20.14(c)). Each of these will be discussed in further detail.
