Genichi Taguchi

This is the second member of the Japanese group who had an excellent background of statistics and from 1950 onwards, developed his own methods and published several books [20,21], whilst other authors described the Taguchi methodology [22-25]. When Taguchi visited the U.S.A. in 1980, a number of American companies became involved in his methodology. [Pg.780]

An important aspect of the Taguchi methodology is that it can be apphed offline in design, or online in production. The offline quality control can be broken down into  [Pg.781]

Following Taguchi s early work [19] with Orthogonal Arrays, he was able to express them in a systematic form to provide a route whereby an engineer could select a minimum number of prototypes that would be necessary for experimentation. [Pg.781]

Genichi Taguchi s methods have been widely known in industry for decades. The central idea of his methods is the quahty loss function and robust parameter design [42,43]. The quality loss function is used to estimate costs when the product or process characteristics are shifted from the target value. This is represented by the following equation ... [Pg.238]
