Genetics of Lactate Dehydrogenase and Some Enzymes

A series of interesting investigations has been carried out to study genetic determination of isozyme heterogeneity of phosphatases in man (Hopkinson et al., 1963 Lai et al., 1964 Arfors et al., 1963). The first of these studies showed that the acid phosphatase of erythrocytes is determined by three alleles P, P, and P in an autosomal locus. By mass examination of families they discovered five phenotypes, two homozygous (A and B) and three heterozygous (B, C, and C ) and they postulated the existence of [Pg.190]

This method was used to establish genetic variants of phosphatases by Arfors and co-workers (1963), who studied the character of phosphatase heterogeneity in 89 monozygous and 111 dizygous twin pairs. [Pg.191]

Other work (Boyer et al., 1962 Escobar et al., 1964 Mohler and Crockett, 1964) has revealed a clear pattern of the genetic control of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase. The existence of two different types of enzymes in erythrocytes of heterozygotes was [Pg.191]
