Genes immunoglobulin-like domains

The gene for N-CAM in humans is located on chromosome 1 lq23 (Gold et aL, 1987). At least four different N-CAM isoforms have been described, with polypeptide molecular masses of 180, 140, 120, and 110 kDa. These arise by alternative mRNA splicing (Cunningham et aL, 1987). Each isoform contains five immunoglobulin-like domains and two fibronectin-like repeats. The 180-and 140-kDa isoforms are linked to the plasma membrane via a transmembrane... [Pg.101]
