Gelatine-Penthrinits

Later they proved to be very effective for underwater explns. Two Penthrinits, 1 2 of Table 17 were, accdg to Stettbacher (Ref 6), loaded in 1929—1930 in 2cm shells and tested at Oerlikon Fabrik at muzzle velocity (vQ) 840m/sec. No prematures occurred. The addition of about 15% A1 powder increases the efficiencies of Penthrinits, while high amounts seem to decrease it. For example, addition of 30% A1 to formulation 1 of Gelatine Penthrinits decreased detonation velocity from 8000m/sec to 7200... 

The Gelatine-Penthrinits 1, 2 3 were listed in Table 17, Vol 3 of Encycl, p C443-R, but their properties were not given. 

In the same place compn 4 was listed under the name Gelatine-Penthrinite-Perchlorite, but its properties were not given... 

Six Penthrinits and four Gelatine-Penthrinits formulations are given in Table G17 including some properties... 

Gelatine Gamsit. Same as Telsit-Gamsit Gelatine-Penthrinit. A series of expls developed by A.Stettbacher consisting of Penthrinit (PETN + NG) in which collod cotton is incorporated in order. to make the blend more plastic and less exudable. Eg a)PETN 50, NG 35, NGc 11.7 collod cotton 3.3%... 

Stettbacher113 in 1931 described several dynamite-like explosives which contained both PETN and nitroglycerin. He called them by the general name of Penthrinit, and described simple penthrinit, gelatin penthrinit, and ammonpenthrinit. Naoum114 later in the same year reported comparative tests of ammonpenthrinit and gelatin dynamite, as follows. 

Penthrinits and Gelatine-Penthrinits were prepd before WWII for research purposes by the Societe Suisse des Explosifs, Gamsen bei Brigg and proved to be outstanding expls.
